Our car loan application process

Application

Simply fill out your car loan application online by entering some of your details, or chat to one of our friendly lending specialists over the phone and they can complete your application for you.

Goodbye paperwork

After your application is complete, use our system we call onTrack on your desktop or device to add your documentation such as payslips and bank statements, and track the progress of your application.

Speak to specialist

You will then have an appointment with one of our lending specialists to organise your preliminary approval of your loan, and help you progress through the car loan approval process through to settlement as quickly as possible.

Signing document

Check onTrack to received your final approval, mortgage documents and loan agreement. You must sign these and return them in to onTrack, which authorises us to deal directly with your existing lender.

Settlement

Your loan will settle so you can make payment to the dealer or private seller. You'll start saving with your new low rate, and get your keys to your dream car!

Access your account

Once settlement is complete, we will send your login credentials to start managing your payments in the Smart Money app.

How does a balloon payment work?

A balloon payment is a one-off lump sum that you might agree to pay your lender at the end of your car loan’s term.

This one-off final payment will account for a large proportion of your car loan so your regular car loan repayments can be reduced as a result.

It’s important to note - the balloon repayment option is only available if you get a fixed car loan, and will not be available for the variable car loan.

How quickly can I get approved for a car loan?

You could get pre-approval on your car loan in around 30 minutes, and we can have the loan settled in 2-4 business days, pending all the lending criteria is met.

What counts as a new car?

A new car is one that is sold in its original condition, usually at a car dealership and has never had any previous owners.

What is the process to get to settlement?

In short, the process to get to settlement involves you applying, speaking to a car lending specialist, and uploading your documents. loans.com.au may then approve your loans, issue the documents and you settle, and we then pay the funds so you can collect your car.

What is pre-approval?

You can save yourself a lot of time and heartache if you get pre-approval for a loan before negotiating for a car. Also known as preliminary approval, pre-approval is an offer from us to lend you an agreed amount, subject to full approval. Pre-approval remains valid for 60 days. To gain full approval, you'll need to supply more supporting documents and updated information.
